Our Story

     Like many business success stories, Cooper Finishing was founded out of necessity in a garage in small-town USA. To complement another manufacturing business we owned at the time, we needed to acquire the means to powder coat weldments and steel structures economically, which proved extremely difficult at the time. All available powder coat systems at that time had a price tag of $60k-$100k. We decided to engineer our own powder coating equipment which served us well for a very long time. As time went on we fell in love with all aspects of powder coating; the cloud of color hanging in the air when being sprayed, the transition from the matte powder to a high gloss as it flows out in the oven, the quick turn around from rusty old parts to newly revived treasures, and of course the durability and 1000’s of color choices to choose from.

     As time went on we exited our position from our previous manufacturing business leaving us with much used equipment to sell, including our self-engineered powder coating set-up. As the story goes, our used powder coating equipment sold in 1 day to another small business in Dayton, OH. In talking with that customer, they explained how they had been in a similar situation as we previously had. They needed to powder coat their items in-house, but were unable to find an economical means to do so. They were ecstatic to finally have a solution, and we were happy to help guide them and get them set-up. We decided nearly immediately that this customer couldn’t be the only other besides us that was searching for powder coat solutions. We got to work on recreating our powder coat system that we had originally designed for our own use with the intent to sell to a customer in need: That second unit sold in just 3 days. And we had another happily satisfied customer.

     Turn the page nearly 15 years and thousands of satisfied customers later, and we still never forget those first two units sold, or any of the ones in between. Today, we may operate on a larger scale and much more efficiently, but we still understand that our #1 job is to meet a customer’s specific needs.
